DON'T SHOOT BATS (Right)
Published August 2012. This 30 second video was created to promote the Don't Shoot Bats Campaign. This short and graphic video highlights the short-sighted and illogical arguments used to rationalise the re-introduction of lethal mitigation permits in QLD. The purpose of this short video was to be used as an intro for setting the scene when making Don't-Shoot-Bats presentations. It points out that although two species are threatened, that the act of shooting flyin-foxes is cruel and they play a key role in maintaining Queensland's ecology, the government is still determined to shoot them. |

THE GREY CROSS (RIGHT)Published August 2009.
in 2009 the NSW Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service (WIRES) ran a campaign to stop the shooting of Flying-foxes in NSW. While that campaign has ended, this video remains an excellent statement on the cruelty of shooting bats. Thanks to WIRES and WARD6 who managed the first "Grey Cross" campaign in 2009 and provided the inspiration for the 2012 campaign The video shows flying-foxes in their natural habitat, interspersed with images and messages from the 2009 (NSW) Grey-cross campaign. Since that time, the organisers of the Don't Shoot Bats campaign have worked with the original owners to resurrect the campaign in 2012. See our photo gallery (1) below for images of the 2012 Grey Cross campaign. |

Flying Fox Electrocution
Published 2009 Some of this footage was used in the court cases back in 2008/2009 when Dr Carol Booth was successful in getting the initial bans placed on lethal controls of FFs. Over 18.000 Spectacled FF were murdered in one period on one electrical grid covering one orchard. Dr Booth and Environmental Defenders Office brought to light this savage and inhumane treatment of our native flying foxes. The footage taken early in the morning clearly shows dead and dying flying-foxes captured on the grids and / or on the ground below.

Some images may be disturbing: They show the graphic reality of the cruelty that is being proposed. The LNP wants to gloss over the cruelty, but we think a dose of reality is called for. Some images were not added as they were deemed too graphic to be included for public display. Click "Play" for a slide show or click on the thumbnails below to see the larger picture.
